"RPM esq." (rpm3)

Doing some lunchtime Craigslist surfing for old BMWs, as one does. I’m not looking for an E36 M3, but couldn’t resist looking at this one that screams PRETEND RACECAR.
Some idiot has riced it out tastelessly, but not incompetently. Big dumb wing, “illest” jewelry hanging from the mirror, the whole works. I don’t get it, but it’s clear that this is somebody’s dream car. And on the outside at least, none of it is irreversible, and it certainly seems to have been done with love, so presumably it’s been reasonably well taken care of.
And then you get to the interior, and the WTF really hits.
Quilted red velour interior! Even a little cushion on the steering wheel! If the 2017 E-class interior aesthetic is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , let’s call this aesthetic “love hotel in Reno.”

Why would you do this?

I can dig the seats and shift material, but the airbag cover is too much. Shark was definitely jumped.

That’s the official Takata recall fix for the E36.

I like how the driver’s butt gets cushioned in nice, soft, quilted velour, and the passenger gets 20 year old dry-rotted leather

This car would be saved with 3 key points:
1.) Remove the splitter.
2.) Remove the wing.
3.) Reinstall a stock steering wheel.

Eh, I say you could leave the splitter and wing, just make sure they are producing actual downforce. But if you’re going to care about that, then gut the whole interior and make it into a track-rat.

And the velour on the airbag cover does nothing to address the cracking and crud all over the rim of the steering wheel...

Better yet just leave it how it is and use it as a drift car.(That way nothing aesthetically -needs- to be functional)

That works. Also, if you scrape a wall and they happen to come off...
